Knowledge based urban development: An approach to innovation districts based on education

Education is a concept that encompasses not only the teaching-learning process but also conditions, environment, and facilities in which it takes place. precondition to development because serves as society’s primary engine of innovation. Therefore, space designated an Innovation District essential for creation Sustainable Cities since such spaces jobs are created new markets specializing products high-added value services emerge. However, past, successful innovation districts have generally been found developed countries, sufficient resources invest projects this magnitude. Our methodology consists case study, city Querétaro, central Mexico, analyze role higher education within developing countries seek create districts. We employ quantitative methods Geographic Information Systems (GIS) locations quotients, along with qualitative documentary analysis, conduct spatial-urban characterize industrial configuration, design educational models adapted needs specific industries. The results our study suggest cities from fast industrializing can best maximize their chances success by encouraging explicit collaboration between industry through Triple Helix Model. Such would be based on matching competencies opportunities reconfiguration carefully select location district decide over its area specialization.
